Painting Crocosmia on Porcelain

Using photos of my garden as sources it suddenly seemed quite natural that the crocosmia that blooms in mid summer should wind around the tall mugs.

It's kind of a shock to see this kind of color on the clay... When it fires the color will sink in a bit and the shine of the clear glaze will add some depth. 
The question I wonder is how much painting is too much for the object?
I am not sure. I am still wondering about just what I want to do and how I want the images to go...
Color or just the cobalt? Or all of the above?
