Fruit and vegetables have skin - they stand about in dramatic poses and relate to one another in a drama that always has human gestures. As humans we personify even intimate objects.
They always evoke something in us or we wouldn't look.
And for someone who really didn't know what to paint at the time, they were as good an excuse to put together an image as any.
The fish are from Graduate school - long before I had a pond. The one of the flowers with the patterned background is strangely prescient of what is to come. I include for that reason, otherwise I really don't like the painting and never did, still it had something to say to me, so I kept it.
