First Steps in a small oil painting

First steps for a small painting involve working on a colored ground and doing a pencil drawing. Lately I've been working from printed pictures - ones I've taken with my phone. I haven't painting outside much in the past five years - partly the phone pictures have opened up so many new possibilities and it's easier to work indoors and not be dependent on weather. I do kind of miss working outdoors, however … there are so many amazing things about working from phone pictures.
