I started these for a variety of reasons - One I went to the Santa Barbra area to visit my family and was awed by the scenery, the environment and - the beach.
also my little gallery is sponsoring a jurried show for Small Work. So I had a reason to be painting very small. Two of these are 8x10 and two are 9x12.
Usually I paint small things large - or just pretty large in general. I found that out when i had only six feet of space at the gallery... The 'normal' 24x36 paintings just didn't fit.
Hard to say how I even like these paintings however. They are not at all what I usually do and I tried not to think too much about them or how they 'should' look - I just wanted to paint the sunset at the beach as I remembered it. They are from photos.
While at the beach I did some watercolors which will be in the second gallery.
Difficult to say, in some ways, how to think about these. They don't take long to do - and I enjoy just moving the paint about. Still it's different than what I usually do. Maybe that's a good thing.
